  Sydney is the evening anchor for the CBS Affiliate, KVEO-TV in the Rio Grande Valley.
 She anchors, shoots, writes, edits, and reports across South Texas..
   This is her story...

Sydney Montana Hernandez is the 3-X EMMY Nominated and Associated Press Award Winning evening news anchor for KVEO-TV in the Rio Grande Valley and a proud native of Palmview, Texas. 

 

After graduating with a 4.0 GPA from Palmview High School, Sydney graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Journalism, Mass Communications and a minor in Political Science from Texas A&M University Kingsville in 2015.  Sydney wasted no time her first semester and became a field reporter for the university newspaper, The South Texan along with joining the university dance team, The Javelina Sapphires. By her second semester, Sydney started editing, producing, and reporting for the university television station, The Javelina Broadcast Network.

 

         Shortly after, Sydney landed her first internship with KOB-TV out of Albuquerque, New Mexico- A Top 45 Market. After 13 weeks, Sydney returned to Texas to star in her very own segment to be live streamed during Javelina Football Tailgates and Games. Live from Sydney's Tailgate, aired every Saturday where she talked to fans and locals about sports and community events. Sydney was also the lead sideline sports reporter for Javelina Showtime, a sports coaches show which aired on KRIS-6 TV , The NBC Affiliate in Corpus Christi, Texas where she hosted Javelina athletes and coaches for exclusive pre and post game interviews.

 

         After her sophomore year at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Sydney scored her second internship with KGBT-TV in The Rio Grande Valley out of South Texas where she wrote, produced, edited, and reported on Border Violence, Immigration Crisis, Local Murders, and Community Events for three months. The same station that would hire her a few years later.

 

​Months before her graduation date, Sydney was hired by KWKT- FOX 44 News in Waco, Texas as a news reporter. She focused on breaking, crime and community news. Sydney was also the exclusive Military reporter for FOX 44 NEWS focusing on Fort Hood, the Military’s largest Army installation in the country.

         Since 2015, Sydney has covered nationwide stories like the ongoing immigration crisis, Hurricane Harvey,  Baylor Football Sexual Assault Scandals, Fort Hood Death Investigations, The University of Texas Fatal Stabbing and over 106 homicides. Sydney also toured with Former President Donald J. Trump during his two trips to McAllen, Texas. She was hand selected by The White House for these events. 

During her career, Sydney has interviewed Former President Donald J. Trump, Vice President Kamala Harris,  Former Vice President Mike Pence, George P. Bush, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Former Congressmen Beto O'Rourke, U.S. Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz, U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Scott Efflandt, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, Texas Senator John Cornyn, Rep. Henry Cuellar, Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, among many others. Sydney has been nominated for an EMMY Award three times and won a Texas Associated Press award for her work on the border. 

Sydney is the founder of Sydney's Soldiers, a non-profit organization that packs and ships care packages to U.S. Servicemembers across the country and internationally to boost morale and decrease suicide rates among our military. Sydney aspires to inspire the next generation by focusing on spreading kindness and inspiration across the state of Texas. 

 

​In her spare time, she is also an advocate for Alzheimer's Awareness, hosting the 2021 Walk To End Alzheimer's in McAllen, Texas. 

    Sydney also hosted the 2021 Special Olympics for the Rio Grande Valley. Sydney is an active member of the Edinburg Crime Stoppers Association where she focuses on keeping her city safe and crime-free. Sydney also coaches and works closely with Starr County 4H and FFA at the County Fair Pageant.

 

Her most recent accomplishment is being crowned Miss Edinburg Latina representing the Rio Grande Valley. Sydney will go on to compete at the state level in Houston for the title of Miss Texas Latina. 

 

Sydney is also featured on Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making The Team Season 10.
